Compact Laser Displacement Sensor HL-G1

Application Proposal

Detecting O-rings

A sensor detects O-rings during the final inspection of automotive components.

Until now...

Detection of workpieces with limited reflectivity, for example objects made of black rubber, was difficult with general-purpose sensors, which yielded unstable results.

With the HL-G1...

Simply set specific values for parameters such as workpiece thickness to obtain three-value judgment output (OK, OVER, UNDER). Additionally, the HL-G1 can be used in conjunction with a laser or CMOS image sensor to allow stable detection.

Detecting case cover float

An array of sensors detect whether the height of the final product falls within standard-based dimensions.

Until now...

The large size of the sensor heads and inspection system made it impossible to simultaneously measure four locations.

With the HL-G1...

Smaller systems made possible by a compact head design help lower production costs while reducing the man-hours associated with simultaneous four-point measurement.
Additionally, the HL-G1 High Functionality Type's communications functionality allows multiple sensors to be controlled at once using RS-485 communications.

Detecting fan rotation direction

A sensor checks the direction of rotation of an exhaust fan during a household electronics assembly process.

Until now...

The check took up valuable man-hours since it had to be performed visually by workers.

With the HL-G1...

The fan's direction of rotation can be tested using analog voltage output by measuring how the analog waveform rises.

Detecting the height of molded plastic products

A sensor tests for mold defects (blistering) of detailed areas such as letters during a visual inspection process.

Until now...

Use of calipers caused damage during inspections, and measurements made by workers exhibited a high level of variation.

With the HL-G1...

A laser with a minute spot can measure even small, confined areas.
Non-contact measurement delivers high precision and fast takt times.

Verifying assembly status

The presence of a circuit board and proper caulking is verified by means of height detection.

Until now...

It was difficult to obtain stable, precise measurements using a contact displacement gauge due to the large number of moving parts.

With the HL-G1...

The HL-G1's high-performance CMOS image sensor is less susceptible to the effects of the color of the area being measured, for example the surface of the circuit board or caulking, allowing it to deliver high-precision measurements.

Controlling the height of an adhesive application nozzle

Image:Controlling the height of an adhesive application nozzle
Nozzle height is controlled to optimize the volume of adhesive applied.

Until now...

The nozzle height had to be adjusted each time the workpiece was changed.

With the HL-G1...

Stable application is possible by controlling nozzle position based on measurements of the distance to the workpiece and maintaining a constant distance between the workpiece and the nozzle.

Detecting winding thickness

A sensor measures the diameter of the reel on a winding machine after winding is complete to detect the length of wound wire.

Until now...

Values were checked by processing analog signals with a PLC or similar device.

With the HL-G1...

The sensor head includes a digital display, allowing values to be checked at a glance.

Detecting quantity of processed foods

Quantity is tested by detecting minute differences in height between adjacent processed fish products.

Until now...

General-purpose reflective sensors were unable to consistently detect minute differences in height between adjacent food items.

With the HL-G1...

Since the sensor can be configured on the line while the operator views the value display, stable detection can be achieved, even of processed food products that lack uniform shape. Additionally, an IP67 enclosure means the unit can be used even in locations where it will be exposed to water.
